Cormac
Callanan, CEO of Aconite Internet Solutions, established
the first commercial ISP (Internet Services Provider) business in
Ireland in 1991 (EUnet Ireland) and after 5 years of substantial
growth and success sold the business as a going concern. He was awarded
the Net Visionary Award in 2003 by the Irish Internet Association. He
was also awards Golden Spider Hero of the Year award in 2005.
Having
spent time in the computer industry in the USA and Japan and having
developed strong relationships with service providers across Europe,
Cormac brings a unique blend of experience to Internet Management
Consultancy. He works as a expert with the Council of Europe in the
cybercrime area.
Cormac
was Chairman of the ISPAI (Internet Service Providers Association
of ireland) and founding Director of the Irish hotline (www.hotline.ie)
combating illegal content and use of the Internet.
He was CEO of INHOPE (www.inhope.org) the International
Association of Internet Hotlines from 2003-2007. INHOPE coordinates a network of
Internet hotlines combating online criminally illegal content.
Cormac
has written for national and trade press including Communications
Today magazine. He gives seminars when time permits and has lectured
on a wide range of IT issues for many years.
Previously
Cormac was head of computing and lectured in the subject at the
Dublin Institute of Technology.
He
was also treasurer of the Irish UNIX Systems Users Group and president
of DECUS Ireland, the Digital Equipment Corporation Users Society.
